Unlike many in the industrial marketing, advertising and PR arena, Mark Newby has practised the art of engineering whilst running engineering magazines. He and his team buddy Colin Fallows reset the UK Outright Land Speed Record multiple times between 1996 and 2006. Colin still holds the official record at an average of 301.2mph and Mark’s average of 338.74mph remains the fastest officially timed one-way speed seen in the UK.
In addition, the pair then went on to design, build and operate what was at the time the UK’s fastest ever electric car, e=motion. Using 100% proprietary components (drives, motors, controls, electronics et al) that are readily available to everyone off-the-shelf, Mark & Colin engineered a battery powered streamliner that posted an FIA timed average speed of 189.9mph (at just 48% power) with Mark at the wheel in 2005.
If you’re so inclined you can read more about it in Mike Varndell’s land speed book ‘The British are coming’, available from Chaters booksellers.
So we don’t just ‘talk engineering’ at MNA: we have practised it, and with some success too!
Across a career spanning more than 3 decades Mark has either worked on, published or owned some of the best quality and most respected titles and events in the engineering sector covering engineering design, manufacturing production, electrical, electronics, processing, systems building, automation and fastening.
He has delivered successful marketing ideas and solutions for companies large and small, from the greatest in their sectors to the newest startups. Now you can harness this experience and put it to work for your business without inducing coronary palpitations in your FD’s office!
